Kai’s torso decal

Some people have requested my design for Kai’s torso used in my spinjitsu dojo. I’m not that happy with the design, but feel free to use it as a start. (Click pic for bigger version)

Desucon 2011

Last weekend I attended a convention for sci-fi, fantasy and japanese culture called Desucon together with my LUG (LEGO User Group) Brikkelauget. We had been invited to have a stand with a LEGO exhibit, and even though we only got to know how much space we would get a couple of days in advance, we were able to pull something together. In an attempt to cover themes that would interest the crowd at Desucon, we had pirates, ninjas, tentacle monsters and a geisha. Needless to say, it was quite a success. Below are som pictures. The dojo is mine, and is an improvement over this. I added the japanese garden in front of it in a hurry the day before.

N9 finally announced!

Nokia’s first Meego device, N9 has finally been announced today. Hopefully, it won’t be the last…

Nokia are putting large emphasis on the swiping motion that is central to the navigation in this phone. The specs are also quite good, and seeing this device has kept me drooling over images, videos and specs all day. I’m afraid that the wait will be long though, since they have not given a release date yet.

So why am I drooling over this? Isn’t Meego dying? Is it too little too late? I don’t think so. Meego is definitely not dying, but there is some uncertainty about the future of Meego in phones. Nokia’s partnering with Microsoft, and the lack of support from other phone manufacturers is of concern, but I believe that if this phone sells well, then the future of Meego as a smartphone OS, and not just a neetbook/tablet/infotainment OS will be bright. And I think this phone can sell well. I mean, look at it, it’s gorgeous! And after seeing this, I don’t care how many windows phones Nokia are going to make a year, as long as they release a powerful beauty like this with Meego every other year or so ๐Ÿ˜‰ And hopefully, other phone manufacturers will come along too, making Meego a strong competitor to Android.

Oh, and engadget has a number of nice videos to check out.

Towering beach house

My most recent build is this very tall “beach house” for my 16 custom minifigs that I made for this contest at Eurobricks (which, again, looks like it falls short of the other great entries in the voting…). I built the rooms in the same fashion as I do for my collectable minifigs modular display. The top floor is different, as it spans two modules, and the base and facade part are of course different as well. The base is rather massive, so it stands quite solid. Here’s some pictures.

Can you identify the figures on the shelf?

Took me quite some time to figure out how to make that wall pattern stick...

Nintendo announces Wii U at E3

I watched the live stream from Nintendo’s E3 press conference yesterday, and when they showed their upcoming console (or rather, the new controller for it), I was both excited and sceptical.

The name of the new console is Wii U. Yeah, very creative… But I guess it’s as to be expected. The focus for Wii U, as it was with the motion controllers for Wii, is the new controller. I looks a bit like the child of an ipad and an etch-a-sketch if you ask me, with a suitably white Wii-ish look. I’m not going to state any tech specs here, as those are readily available all over the net. My main concern with it is the size. I’m afraid it will be uncomfortable for long play session, but time will tell.

It was good too see that third party developers are already loving it and showing great support for it, that bodes well for the future of this console. Since we are finally getting awesome HD graphics as well, multi plattform games won’t have to be ported to a special low-res crappy versionย  for Wii U as they often are for Wii (or not ported at all in other cases…). I was also very happy that it will be backwards compatible with all Wii controllers (and games), cause I have a lot of those ๐Ÿ˜›

So now the question is: will I be so excited about it that I will stand in line for it all night on launch day like I did for the Wii? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Temple of the Tan Tiger

-infomaniac- has built this awesome Japanese temple. Just take a moment to feel the tranquility of it, and then look at all the great details. (Click the pic to go to his flickr stream to check out the interior and read his story about it).

My Roomba eats LEGO bricks

One piece of advice: if you have a Roomba (or other robotic vacuum cleaners with brushes), don’t leave any LEGO bricks lying on the floor. I try to be careful and pick up anything from the floor straight away, but for the second time now, it has eaten one of my bricks. The sad thing about that is that the brick suffers irreparable damage from being caught in the brushes. Just look at this poor red 1×4 plate!

Build in bag

Been a while since my last post now, guess I’ve busy. I spent last weekend at a cottage in the middle of nowhere together with members of my LUG, discussing a building project and having fun. We had a build in bag contest, and even though I didn’t win, it was quite fun. As you can see from these pictures, a lot of ink transfered from the bag to my fingers in the process ๐Ÿ˜› And it’s not easy to see, but the speeder is actually built in there, with the minifig on top and everything.

I guess it can't be called MISB anymore, ISB, maybe?

Hard to build inside the bag with only that little window

Teaser video for N9/950 leaked

I really hope this is Nokia’s first Meego device, and that it will launch soon… *fingers crossed*

But I’m not sure I dear to get my hopes up until there’s an actual official statement about this.
